Lawn Party 2009

Short Sands YorkLast Saturday we had our 16th annual lawn party on the hill. It was a beautiful day for a party, though still hot and humid. As we rent a tent each year we are always safe from rain or sun, and it was necessary this year to get out of the heat of the sun and catch the breeze from the ocean. We had a couple of record breakers this year! Our youngest and oldest guests to date…one week old baby boy and one hundred year old sweet woman! I had never met either prior to the party. I like that!

The first party in 2004 was with family and friends to celebrate our ‘wedding’ earlier that summer. We planted a tree. It was a hit. We decided to do it again the next year. Then it also became a family reunion. Here I am…16 years later…and as I look over the guest book I see familiar names, new names, note the people that not only couldn’t attend this year, but those who would never be able to join us again. I see not only names but email addresses for nieces and nephews that weren’t imagined in 2004, who have attended this party every year of their lives! I like that.

Did I take any pictures? Not a one. I always intend to…but then I always hope someone else will as I run circles to keep people happy and relaxed. Lemonade and All You Can Eat. Croquet and Badminton. Pie and cookies.

Sunset Ridge

As the sun goes down…steaks and sausages…gin and tonics. Smiles and sighs.

See you next year!
