The Lame Carrying the Lame

A recent leg injury has me limping at best and unable to put weight on my right leg at worst. Now add a lame sixteen pound poodle, a long flight of stairs and you have a comedy.

I think of those movies that have a little dog lowered to street level in a basket. Off the dogs scamper to do their duty, then happily jump back in the basket to be hauled back up to their home. It’s sounding like a pretty good idea, at this point, but I can’t see my dog all that anxious to come back home. He’d find a bicycle to try to chase or a patch of shade too inviting to pass up a nap in the cool grass.

For now, we will limp on, the two of us, in abstract cadence.

Hosting No More

We  have hosted an annual party for fifteen years. It began as a celebration shared with family and friends and morphed over the years into a reunion of distant relatives, neighbors, former classmates and the usual suspects.

Last year, the last year, we had our youngest guest who joined us at age one week old and our oldest guest ringing in at 100 years old.

The nephews have never known a life without the lawn party. I’m told they believe it is a national holiday.

We have had great fun, good food, played games that don’t see the light of day any other time of the year, and enjoyed seeing everyone have a good time.

Thank you to all that helped us with the annual lawn party over the years.

Must Be The Reasons Of A Witch

I’ve been absent in so many ways for far too long this winter.

A confirmed Fibromyalgia diagnosis has me questioning so many aspects of my life.

Aside from the syndrome that has been with me my whole life I now am crashing into the aging process.

I believe this list would benefit any person:

Positive Thoughts

Stress Reduction

Exercise

Nutrition

Sleep

Water

This list is not meant to be considered in order of importance as all aspects are related and are equally crucial to well being.

Wouldn’t you think that taking care of ourselves would be the easiest part of living? Why is it so difficult for us to acknowledge the importance of sustaining and nurturing ourselves?

Why is it easier to down a soda instead of a glass of water?

Why do we accept treating ourselves badly in so many ways?

I don’t have answers, just a day by day thought-filled awareness of walking the proper path one step after another. It is a lifestyle change that encompasses every choice.

I was born in a hallway…

You were born in a hallway.

What?

Your Mom told me that you were born in a hallway.

Why have I never heard of this before?

He shrugged and said with a laugh,

You know your Mom…

I followed this up a few days later while I was wrapping gifts with Mom,

What’s this about me being born in a hallway?

Mom tilted her head and had a quizzical look on her face. Used to repeating everything for Mom to hear, I asked again, louder this time,

What’s this about me being born in a hallway?

Mom’s head swung back to center. She took a breath while considering my question…

You were born in a corridor. You weren’t born on a holiday.
